Urinalysis

In the basic urine test, density, pH, abnormalities and sediment are determined. There is also the possibility of analysis by urinoculture with germ identification and antibiogram, etc., in this case consult.

No appointment necessary.

Urine should always be collected directly into a sterile single-use bottle available at pharmacies. Always avoid the first and last stream to rule out contamination of the urinary tract. For 24-hour urine collection, a 2-liter container should be used.

The results of the basic urine are delivered after 24 hours and those of the analysis by urinoculture with germ identification and antibiogram after 48 hours.

Urine is a very useful waste product. Its analysis is fundamental to know our state of health. A small sample of this liquid can help in the diagnosis of illnesses in early stages or serve to control the treatment of various pathologies. Therefore, it is one of the most common diagnostic tests in medicine.

These are the specific values that are studied in a urine test:

  • Basic urine test. Here different parameters are studied as pH, density and abnormal.
  • Sediment. In the urine there are dissolved solid components. To analyze them, the urine is centrifuged and the solids are at the bottom. They are then examined under the microscope.
  • The urinoculture. It consists of leaving the urine between 24h and 48h in certain conditions of conservation, if any, allows the proliferation of colonies of bacteria or Candida (fungi), indicative of a urine infection or a yeast infection respectively.
  • The antibiogram makes it possible to determine exactly the type of antibiotic for the most appropriate treatment and to avoid the appearance of resistance.

Urine amino acid determinations and hormone studies are also performed.

A urine analysis allows to act in time in case of pathologies.
